American Future Fund: “Priority”

The American Future Fund’s attack on Rep. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), who is running for the Senate, proclaims that “New Mexico’s unemployment is up 20 percent” since he took office. Of course, the ad fails to mention that Heinrich took office during the worst month of a crushing recession that predated his election – or that the state’s unemployment rate has dropped from a 2010 high of 8 percent to well below 7 percent today. The ad also repeats tired distortions of the Recovery Act and the health care law.

Crossroads GPS: “ObamaClaire”

In an ad titled “ObamaClaire,” Crossroads GPS vilifies Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) for supporting the Affordable Care Act, which the group claims will “slash” Medicare benefits and “restrict seniors’ access to medical care.” These are stale falsehoods that have been thoroughly discredited – and, in fact, the GOP Medicare scheme authored by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) retains almost all of the health care law’s savings. Meanwhile, Crossroads GPS ignores the significant benefits for seniors in the Affordable Care Act and the severe consequences that repeal would have for millions of Americans.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “Claire McCaskill Means More Government And More Regulation”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce opens its attack on Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) by declaring, “Washington is standing in the way of job creation, and it’s getting worse.” That statement, of course, is blatantly false: The private sector has added 4.5 million jobs in the last 29 months, and Missouri’s unemployment rate has gone down. Making matters worse, the Chamber’s argument relies on McCaskill’s support for the Affordable Care Act, but the GOP claims that the health care law will “kill jobs” has been repeatedly debunked.

Crossroads GPS: “Obama’s Promise”

An ad from Crossroads GPS features clips of President Obama describing his policies and accuses the president of breaking his promises to the American people. However, Crossroads’ attempt to use Obama’s words against him backfires, as the ad repeatedly misrepresents the facts about the president’s record.

Citizens United: “Jesse Kelly Will Repeal Obamacare”

In an ad supporting Arizona Republican Jesse Kelly, who is running for the seat previously held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Citizens United makes several false claims about the Affordable Care Act. The ad misleads viewers about the health care law’s impact on seniors, the economy, and the deficit. Citizens United further praises Kelly for supporting a full repeal of the law, a step that would increase the deficit and have disastrous consequences for millions of Americans.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “Instead Of Voting For Free Enterprise, Kathy Hochul Supported Obamacare”

An ad from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce criticizes Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) for supporting the Affordable Care Act, listing a series of negative things “we know about Obamacare.” Those bits of supposed knowledge, however, are badly misinformed. Despite the ad’s allegations, the health care law does not “kill jobs,” does not “cut” Medicare benefits, and lowers deficits by more than $200 billion over a decade. Unfortunately, such dishonest attacks have become standard for the Chamber, which took mountains of money from health insurers to fight against reform.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “When Ohio Needs Jobs, Senator Brown Turns His Back On The Interests Of Small Business”

In an ad attacking Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) for his support of the Affordable Care Act, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce alleges that “Obamacare will cost taxpayers nearly $2 trillion, kill jobs, and could disrupt coverage for millions.” Those claims significantly distort the facts, and repealing the law, as the Chamber advocates, would cause millions of Americans to lose coverage. The Chamber’s dishonesty is predictable, however, given that the group has received massive donations from the insurance industry to fight against reform.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “Senator Nelson’s Vote For Obamacare Can Result In Millions Of Seniors Losing Their Health Coverage”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce attacks Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) with vintage distortions of the Affordable Care Act and its impact on seniors. The ad portrays the law as “a nightmare for Florida seniors” by misleadingly suggesting it will knock 20 million people off their current health care coverage and claiming it is paid for with “$500 billion in Medicare cuts.” No matter how many times that old claim is recited, there’s still no cut to Medicare benefits in the bill – and the spending provisions the ad refers to were included in the GOP’s budget.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “Alan Grayson Supported Anti-Business Policies In Washington”

In an ad attacking former Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) for supporting the Affordable Care Act, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce resorts to the dishonest claim that the law will knock 20 million people off their current health care coverage. The Chamber ad also cited Florida U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson’s ruling against the law, which legal scholars considered problematic even before the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act in June.

Crossroads GPS: “Amazing”

An ad from Crossroads GPS attacks Rep. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) over her support for the Affordable Care Act, but gets nearly everything wrong in the process. Rather than costing money, as Crossroads claims, the health care reform law will reduce deficits over time, and it doesn’t cut Medicare benefits. Those “unelected bureaucrats” – the Independent Payment Advisor Board – must be confirmed by the Senate, and they can’t ration care.
