60 Plus Association: “Tell Bill Nelson To Stop The Wasteful Spending”

A 60 Plus Association ad blames Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and President Obama for a host of economic woes faced by the Sunshine State, but Florida’s unemployment rate and struggling housing market are all symptoms of the global recession that tanked the national economy. Thanks in part to the Recovery Act, which 60 Plus says “failed,” the jobs picture is improving both in Florida and across the nation. Meanwhile, Republican Gov. Rick Scott – not Nelson – held up a program that would have helped Florida homeowners avoid foreclosure.

Crossroads GPS: “Cheap”

Crossroads GPS attacks Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-ND) over his support for the Affordable Care Act. Using the GOP’s long-debunked assertion that the health care law adds $700 billion to the debt, the ad ignores the fact that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has repeatedly found that the law will reduce the deficit. The ad also repeats the worn-out claim that Obamacare cuts $500 billion from Medicare, and omits important details when it warns about a “new tax on Ohio manufacturers.”

Crossroads GPS: “Change”

Crossroads GPS targets Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) with worn-out attacks based on her support for the Affordable Care Act. Despite the ad’s insinuations, Obamacare doesn’t cut Medicare benefits; the Independent Payment Advisory Board established by the Affordable Care Act to control Medicare costs can’t ration care; and the health care law actually helps control rising health care costs.

American Future Fund: “Come Clean”

American Future Fund calls on North Dakota Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp to “come clean” about the Affordable Care Act, repeating misleading talking points about “government bureaucrats” and other alleged consequences of the law. Contrary to what the ad suggests, the Affordable Care Act slows the rise in health care costs and reduces future Medicare spending without ‘cutting’ seniors’ benefits. In fact, most of the Medicare savings in the health care law were preserved in the Republican budget plan supported by Heitkamp’s opponent.

American Crossroads: “Behind”

American Crossroads’ attack on former Gov. Tim Kaine (D-VA) attempts to paint him as self-serving and ambitious at the expense of the Virginians who elected him. To that end, Crossroads insinuates that his decision to serve as Democratic National Committee chairman during his final year as governor is connected to the state’s job losses, rather than the nationwide recession, and they snatch multiple clips of Kaine out of context to deceive voters about how he talks about his public service.

Crossroads GPS: “ObamaClaire”

In an ad titled “ObamaClaire,” Crossroads GPS vilifies Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) for supporting the Affordable Care Act, which the group claims will “slash” Medicare benefits and “restrict seniors’ access to medical care.” These are stale falsehoods that have been thoroughly discredited – and, in fact, the GOP Medicare scheme authored by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) retains almost all of the health care law’s savings. Meanwhile, Crossroads GPS ignores the significant benefits for seniors in the Affordable Care Act and the severe consequences that repeal would have for millions of Americans.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “Claire McCaskill Means More Government And More Regulation”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce opens its attack on Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) by declaring, “Washington is standing in the way of job creation, and it’s getting worse.” That statement, of course, is blatantly false: The private sector has added 4.5 million jobs in the last 29 months, and Missouri’s unemployment rate has gone down. Making matters worse, the Chamber’s argument relies on McCaskill’s support for the Affordable Care Act, but the GOP claims that the health care law will “kill jobs” has been repeatedly debunked.

Crossroads GPS: “Obama’s Promise”

An ad from Crossroads GPS features clips of President Obama describing his policies and accuses the president of breaking his promises to the American people. However, Crossroads’ attempt to use Obama’s words against him backfires, as the ad repeatedly misrepresents the facts about the president’s record.

Citizens United: “Jesse Kelly Will Repeal Obamacare”

In an ad supporting Arizona Republican Jesse Kelly, who is running for the seat previously held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Citizens United makes several false claims about the Affordable Care Act. The ad misleads viewers about the health care law’s impact on seniors, the economy, and the deficit. Citizens United further praises Kelly for supporting a full repeal of the law, a step that would increase the deficit and have disastrous consequences for millions of Americans.

U.S. Chamber Of Commerce: “Wrong”

The the Chamber of Commerce – which has received millions from the insurance industry to oppose health care reform – attacks Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) for stating that the Affordable Care Act “pays for itself, actually reduces the deficit.” Instead, the Chamber claims, the law will add over $300 billion to federal debt. But the Chamber gets its figures from a dishonest study by a GOP operative who works for the Koch-funded Mercatus Center. The nonpartisan CBO, meanwhile, has affirmed that overall the health care law reduces the deficit by more than $200 billion over the next decade.
