House GOP Leader: Final Tax Bill Will Likely Increase Insurance Premiums

American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates released the following statement after House Ways & Means Committee Chair Kevin Brady, who was appointed to be the House chair of the conference committee working on taxes last night, indicated that the final Trump-Republican tax plan would likely include repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, which would cost 13 million Americans their healthcare coverage and raise premiums across the board:

“If Republicans add more Obamacare sabotage to their final tax bill – on top of their tax increases for millions of middle class families – people across the country will suffer from double-digit premium increases and lost coverage. Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are falling over themselves to cut taxes for millionaires and corporations at any cost, even if it means trampling the economic well-being of the middle class. Report: Trump’s Undermining Of CFPB Has Wall St. Racing To Avoid Consequences For Defrauding Consumers

American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates released the following statement after it was reported that Donald Trump’s tampering with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) had touched-off a wave of new attempts by the financial industry to evade investigations and penalties for abusive practices that hurt consumers:

“Donald Trump’s economic agenda is a catastrophe for the middle class.  Just as Senate Republicans are on the verge of raising taxes on middle class families while cutting rates for the wealthy and corporations, the financial industry is already trying to take advantage of Trump’s move to gut critical consumer protections against fraud put in place after the 2008 economic crisis. Trump is doubling-down on failed Republican policies that only benefit the 1% and cheating those he pledged to help.”

The CFPB’s enforcement actions have delivered nearly $12 billion in relief for 29 million American consumers. ​

Republicans follow their unpopular healthcare plan with the most unpopular tax plan in 36 years

A new analysis by FiveThirtyEight finds that the Trump-Republican tax bill “is one of the least popular tax plans since Ronald Reagan’s day,” using polling averages dating back to 1981.

FiveThirtyEight concludes that the tax proposal is “historically” unpopular with the American public “because they think it disproportionately benefits the rich.”

Based on study after study, they’re right – this plan would raise taxes on 87 million middle class households to help finance outsize new breaks for the wealthiest Americans as well as a permanent corporate rate cut that Fortune 500 CEOs are saying would not go toward new jobs, but increasing shareholder pay.

As Trump Lies About Threat To Jobs, Bridge Project Renews Digital Campaign Attacking GOP Tax Plans For Outsourcing

Bridge Project has renewed the buy for a digital ad running nationally on Facebook warning that both the House and Senate Republican tax proposals would kill American jobs by encouraging companies to send them overseas with new tax incentives.  The digital ad, “Trump’s Tax Plan Sells You Out,” exposes that both Republican tax plans would break Donald Trump’s top promise to American voters – that he would protect jobs from outsourcing and bring jobs back to the United States.  Contrary to his promise, these plans charge lower tax rates on foreign profits than domestic profits, which rewards outsourcing.

This comes as Donald Trump blatantly lied about the impact the Republican tax plans would have on American jobs in today’s cabinet meeting.

American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates issued the following statement after it was reported that Donald Trump may appoint Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to be the interim director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
