Sanders Questions: #SeatJones Edition

President Trump backed a pro-slavery, anti-Semitic, homophobic, anti-Muslim sexual predator- and lost. Now it is time for him to do the right thing and urge his party to seat the elected Senator from Alabama, Democrat Doug Jones. There should be no vote on his tax bill, or any other major legislation, until that happens.

American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden calls on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to answer the following questions:

1. In 2010, President Trump praised Barack Obama for urging the Democratic majority in the Senate to delay voting on Obamacare until Scott Brown was sworn in, which they did. Why won’t Trump do the same now and direct Mitch McConnell delay a vote on the tax bill until Doug Jones is seated?

2. What is the President doing to commemorate the five year anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 first-graders […]

Six Must-See Moments From The Rosenstein Hearing

Today, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein testified before the House Judiciary Committee and faced tough questions from both sides about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia’s attack on our 2016 election. Rosenstein unequivocally stated his support for Mueller and promised to reject orders to fire him without cause. Further, Rosenstein swiftly smacked down the Trump team’s false argument that somehow the President is above the law and therefore cannot obstruct justice.

“Republicans should consider themselves on notice. Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein voiced clear support for Special Counsel Mueller’s independent investigation and the indisputable fact that the President is not above the law, and any attempt to suggest otherwise is categorically false,” said American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden. “Republicans on the Committee embarrassed themselves by repeating President Trump’s lies and conspiracy theories aimed at undermining this investigation. Their rhetoric proved once again why Congress […]

Sanders Questions: Election Day Edition

It is Election Day in Alabama and the whole country is watching to see if President Trump’s candidate will prevail despite his rampant racist rhetoric and history of sexually abusing children. Disgustingly, but to the surprise of absolutely no one, President Trump kicked off the day by calling the women who have accused him of sexual misconduct liars (again) and sexually harassing Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on Twitter. He has no shame and it is up to those in his own party and in his own Administration to speak out against this behavior.

American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden calls on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to answer the following questions:

1. Why is President Trump so afraid of powerful women like Senator Gillibrand?

2. Would President Trump cooperate in a congressional investigation into the dozens of sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations against him?

3. Secretary Mnuchin promised multiple times that the […]

Sanders Questions: Women Are Watching Edition

Today, the White House doubled down on attacking three of the nineteen women who have accused President Trump of sexual misconduct as liars on a “publicity tour.” Fittingly, Trump also released a robocall in support of  child sexual predator Roy Moore on the eve of Election Day in Alabama. This administration continues to sink to new lows of disrespecting women and each and every person who enables President Trump to remain in the Oval Office should be ashamed.

American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden calls on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to answer the following questions:

1. How can President Trump stump for a bill that will take money away from the bottom 95% of Americans by 2027?

2. Did President Trump keep Michael Flynn on as National Security Adviser for 18 days after being warned about Flynn by the Justice Department because he was the one who directed Flynn […]

Trump and Moore Silence Women

Throughout the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump called the women who accused him of sexual harassment “horrible,” “liars,” and ugly, suggesting that they were too unattractive for him to assault. Now he’s using the full force of the White House press office to double down on those attacks and accuse three women who have come forward with their stories of lying. To no surprise, Trump’s candidate in Alabama is stealing a page out of his disgusting playbook and similarly attacking victims; this morning it was reported that Roy Moore’s campaign distributed a “primer” to volunteers and supporters painting his accusers as liars.

In response to these Republican attacks, American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden released the following statement:

“Americans ought to be disgusted by Donald Trump and Roy Moore teaming up to attack women who are brave enough to expose them as sexual predators. Trump and Moore deserve each […]

Donald Trump tries to hide his CFPB record, but the American people won’t be fooled

American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates released the following statement after Donald Trump tweeted about news that, under Mick Mulvaney, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was considering allowing Wells Fargo to avoid refunding consumers that the bank has already admitted were overcharged:

“A disingenuous tweet cannot hide the obvious truth of Donald Trump’s record. His actions are selling-out the American middle class by tying the hands of the independent agency created after 2008 to safeguard consumers from the worst abuses of the financial sector.  Trump himself said that he was placing Mulvaney at the CFPB specifically to benefit the financial companies that the independent agency was created to be the watchdog of, and numerous reportsshow that’s precisely what Mick Mulvaney is doing. There is an unmistakable pattern here, and the American people won’t be fooled.”

Mulvaney considering letting Wells Fargo off the hook for payments owed to overcharged consumers

American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates released the following statement after news broke that Mick Mulvaney may reverse a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau position and allow Wells Fargo to withhold payments to home-buyers who were overcharged:

“What could possibly be the legitimate justification for giving Wells Fargo a pass on paying back customers it has admittedwere overcharged?  Donald Trump’s interference with the CFPB threatens to erode key protections created after the 2008 financial crisis that stand between middle class consumers and deceptive financial industry practices.  Having the only cop on the beat stand down to help big banks increase profit margins is the exact opposite of ‘draining the swamp.’”

On Tuesday, it was similarly reported that the CFPB was reversing itself on whether Nationwide Biweekly Administration should pay millions in penalties for deceiving over 100,000 customers.  This news comes as a series of financial sector companies are already attempting to receive favorable […]

Must Watch Moments From FBI Director Wray Hearing

Today, FBI Director Christopher Wray faced tough questions from the House Judiciary Committee. Republicans on the committee disgracefully repeated President Trump’s talking points and sought to undermine the credibility of our nation’s top law enforcement agency and the integrity of Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation. Fortunately, Director Wray pushed back and offered some reassurance to the American people that President Trump and the Republicans’ blatant politicization of the FBI and the Russia investigation will be held in check.

See for yourself:

WATCH: Wray stated clearly that nobody, including Trump, is above the law and said “there isn’t a person on this planet that can get me to drop a properly predicated investigation.”

WATCH: Wray repeatedly contradicted Trump’s smear that the FBI is in “tatters.”

WATCH: Wray’s answer on obstruction of justice should make President Trump very nervous if he knew Michael Flynn lied to […]

What To Watch In The Wray Hearing

This morning FBI Director Christopher Wray will testify in an oversight hearing of the House Judiciary Committee. Undoubtedly, he will face questions from both sides about the status of the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation, the independence of the FBI from White House pressure, and the incredible damage President Trump’s public attacks on the FBI are inflicting on our national security.

“All eyes will be on Christopher Wray this morning, including the President’s,” said American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden. “Wray must reassure the American people that the Russia investigation will continue unimpeded by the White House and that our nation’s top law enforcement agency is not in ‘tatters’ despite the lies that President Trump tells.”

Here are a few key moments to watch for in the Wray hearing:

Wray on obstruction of justice. Would it be obstruction of justice for President Trump to order Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller and […]

Five Questions Trump Jr. Should Expect From The House Intelligence Committee

Today Donald Trump Jr. will meet behind closed doors with the House Intelligence Committee as part of the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation. Trump Jr. can expect to be grilled on last night’s breaking news that Russian lawyer Natalie Veselnitskaya confirmed he asked her for information about Hillary Clinton in their now-infamous June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower.

“Donald Trump Jr.’s reckless behavior is the pinnacle of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government,” said American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden. “Junior should be very, very nervous about today’s interview. He’s going to have to answer for his meetings with Russian operatives about the 2016 campaign as well as his unbelievable communications with Wikileaks before, during, and after the group published emails stolen by the Russians in the final weeks of the campaign. And, he has to do it all without lying, which we’ve learned is nearly impossible for anyone in […]
