Promoted Articles Part of Series that Also Includes MI, PA, & WI

Bridge Project announced the fourth round in a series of posts on the group’s digital media site, American Ledger, exposing the negative county-level impact of Donald Trump’s disastrous policies in Florida. The round of posts will be promoted through Facebook advertising targeting each to its pertinent county including Jefferson County, Monroe County, Pinellas County, and St. Lucie County.

The promoted posts are part of five-figure campaign to detail the detrimental effects the Trump administration has had on local communities in Florida as well as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin (rounds of articles were previously launched in the latter three states). Editorial Roundup: Tax Cuts For The Rich Edition

This week editorial boards all across the country ripped into President Trump and the Republicans for their tax plan that will crush the middle class to pay for billions in tax breaks for the super rich and explode the deficit for generations to come. Additionally, Trump took his boldest step yet to undercut the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau, made a racist slur about a sitting US Senator, and was rebuked for re-tweeting hateful anti-Muslim propaganda videos.

Here’s what Americans read in their local newspapers this week:

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Estate Tax Repeal: ‘Donald Trump In A Stretch Limo, Not A Farmer On A Tractor’

Trump’s claim about “millions” of farms and family businesses is not even close to the truth. The Tax Policy Center at the Brookings Institution found only 80 of them among the 5,500 estates subject to the tax last year. Most fortunes are amassed, […]

New Digital Ad Blasts GOP Tax Plan for Encouraging Outsourcing of American Jobs

As the House prepares to vote on the Trump tax bill this week, Bridge Project is launching a new digital ad sounding the alarm that the plan would break Donald Trump’s biggest promise by encouraging multinational companies to outsource good-paying American jobs.  The new ad will begin running today on social media networks.

“Donald Trump’s economic policies could not be more at odds with the promises he made on the campaign trail,” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah. “Instead of working on a jobs plan, he’s stacking his administration with lobbyistsand pushing through a tax bill that would send American jobs overseas – and that’s on top of raising taxes on millions of middle class Americans to cut taxes for the rich.  His agenda speaks volumes about who he’s truly looking out for, and […]

Editorial Roundup: “If True” Edition

The Trump administration was again rocked by a series of negative editorials from newspapers across the country this week, as they planned to raise taxes on the middle class to give wealthy people like Trump a tax cut, refused to act to prevent mass shootings like the tragedy in Texas, and wouldn’t demand Roy Moore drop out of the Alabama Senate race following revelations he’d made sexual advances on underage girls.

Here’s what Americans read this week in their local newspapers:

Asbury Park Press: GOP Tax Reform Plan Works — For The Rich

House Republicans revealed their tax “reform” plan on Thursday, the one President Trump has never tired of telling us will be really, really terrific — maybe the best idea in the history of American history. He is, of course, spectacularly wrong.

This is a colossal mess, a wildly ill-conceived handout to the wealthy […]

ICYMI: More layoffs planned at Carrier plant Trump promised to save

“President Trump is King Midas in reverse, every business he touches lays off American workers,” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah.  “Here’s the truth: there have been more than 222,543 layoffs announced since Trump took office, including more than a thousand at the infamous Carrier Plant that Trump had promised to save.  His entire economic agenda has been lie, and the only consistent theme from his administration is a desire to further rig the economy for the super wealthy at the expense of the middle class.”

In addition to Carrier, many other businesses Trump touted have or promised to protect have turned around to layoff workers. This year that includes:

Novartis laid off 204 workers — specifically noting that the jobs would be outsourced to India — even after Trump met with the company’s CEO.

Trump celebrating Boeing before the company laid off ~200 workers at the same […]

Editorial Roundup: Release All The Records Edition!

Last week, while Congressional Republicans sided with banks and credit companies over their own constituents, and San Juan Mayor Cruz fought with Whitefish Energy, Donald Trump reiterated his support for Ed Gillespie, reversed his stance multiple times on 401(k)s, and tried to obstruct a teenager from obtaining an abortion.

Editorial boards across the country criticized Trump for his ACA sabotage, Trump’s Opioid epidemic response, echoed the criticisms of former Presidents and Republican Senators, and more. Here’s what Americans read this week in their local newspapers:

Burlington Free Press: For The President, It’s Donald Trump First

The real danger of Trump’s performance in office is that Americans become so numb to the president’s outrageous behavior that they are unable to recognize the erosion of democracy taking place in plain sight.

Breaking with Trump, White House legislative director admits that “we need to turn this economy around”

American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates released the following statement after White House Legislative Director Marc Short said we need to “turn this economy around,” directly contradicting Trump’s self-congratulatory and dishonest rhetoric about the economy:

“Even Donald Trump’s top legislative aide doesn’t believe the President’s lies about his economic record. He just slipped and admitted the truth: the Trump economy isn’t working for everyone. Not only is job growth down under Trump, but across the board Trump has pursued an economic agenda that sells out the middle class and American workers to further rig the economy for the rich.

“Rather than investing in job creation and infrastructure, Trump has prioritized taking healthcare from millions of Americans in the name of partisanship and cutting taxes for the wealthy – the opposite of what the American people need.”

White House Legislative Affairs Director March Short on Fox & Friends, 10/17/2017: “We need it […]

BREAKING: Fund Managers Say Trump’s Corporate Tax Cuts Will Increase Automation, Cut Jobs

“At the very same time that Donald Trump is making empty promises about his tax plan benefiting manufacturing workers, fund managers are predicting that large companies will use the new corporate tax cuts in Trump’s proposal to invest in automation instead of actual jobs for Americans,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “It couldn’t be more obvious: the framework Trump and congressional Republicans are pushing is all about rigging the American economy so that the wealthiest taxpayers and corporations benefit while the American dream slips more out of reach for the middle class and those fighting to get into it.”

Key paragraph: “Fund managers from Columbia Threadneedle Investments, Hodges Capital and Hood Capital say that they expect that companies will use part of their tax savings to invest in high-cost machines that will allow them to reduce labor costs over time.”

“Donald Trump has derailed 83 straight months of private sector job growth and jog growth is moving at its slowest pace since 2010.  His corrupt administration is hurting economic growth in a way nothing in the past six years had been able to do,” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah. “Trump isn’t working. It’s time for him to stop vacationing on our dime and implement a real plan to create jobs and grow the economy.”
