JCT proves Trump-Republican tax plan increases deficit by $1 trillion with tax cuts for the rich, breaking top promise

The Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) just concluded that – even according to Republicans’ preferred scoring method – the Senate Republican tax plan would increase the national deficit by $1 trillion in order to cut taxes for the high income earners and corporations.  These unaffordable tax cuts would be made possible by raising taxes on millions of middle class Americans.

At the same time, the Treasury Department study of the tax proposal’s economic effects that Sec. Steve Mnuchin has promised multiple times is still nowhere to be found.

“Congress’s independent tax experts just refuted one of the top promises that Donald Trump and Senate Republicans have made to the American people, proving that their reckless tax plan would explode the deficit by $1 trillion,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “This trickle-down sham would sell-out the American middle class with tax increases to allow new breaks for big money donors, […]

Bridge Project to Re-Air Russia Investigation Ads Against Heller and Flake

Following Donald Trump’s reckless firing of FBI Director James Comey, putting the FBI’s investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia in jeopardy, American Bridge is re-airing its ads against Sen. Dean Heller and Sen. Jeff Flake.

The 15-second digital ads condemn Heller and Flake’s refusal to call for a independent commission to investigate Trump and his associates’ ties to Russia. The ads will air on YouTube and other social media over the next week.

Statement by American Bridge President Jessica Mackler:

“What exactly are Dean Heller and Jeff Flake waiting for? It is long past time for Senator Heller and Senator Flake to support an independent commission to investigate Donald Trump’s ties to Russia.

“This unprecedented interference by Trump into the FBI’s Russia investigation makes the need for a truly independent investigation even clearer. Republicans like Dean Heller and Jeff Flake who stay silent now are guilty of moral […]

New Bridge Project Web Ads Target Jeff Flake and Dean Heller on Internet Privacy

Today American Bridge 21st Century announced new web ads holding Sen. Jeff Flake and Sen. Dean Heller accountable for voting to gut FCC privacy rules, putting consumers’ most private information at risk.

The web ads will run this week in Arizona and Nevada, heading into the Senate’s two-week recess.

“Senator Jeff Flake led the charge to overturn FCC rules that kept consumer’s most private information safe,” said American Bridge spokesman Joshua Karp. “Because of Jeff Flake and Dean Heller, who have funded their campaigns with hundreds of thousands of dollars from the telecom industry, are giving their campaign donors permission to sell Americans’ internet history, from financial materials to health information, to the highest bidder. And not only is your online privacy for sale to big corporations — but so is the Republican Senate.”

Bridge Project Launches Second Wave of Ads Against Heller and Flake

Today, American Bridge 21st Century unveiled new digital ads targeting Senators Dean Heller and Jeff Flake for failing to back an independent investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia.

The ads will run on YouTube and other video platforms as pre-roll, short digital advertisements that play before a video. The campaign will last two weeks in Nevada and Arizona and urge voters to contact their Senators and sign a petition urging Heller and Flake to support an independent investigation to find out just how entangled Trump is with Russia.

Statement from American Bridge President Jessica Mackler:

“As if Donald Trump’s close ties with Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin weren’t troubling enough, it’s now clear that his administration attempted to cover up communications between Trump’s associates and the Russians. While Dean Heller and Jeff Flake ignore the questions surrounding Trump’s ties to Russia, Donald Trump, himself, continues to put America’s national security […]

Boehner and his merry band of well poisoners

Yesterday, American Bridge sent you a list of the many other times Republicans have claimed the President “poisoned the well” on an issue. Today, we’re showing you those Republican claims – in their own words.

Barriers To Reform: The Anti-Immigration Policies And Extremist Money Blocking Progress In The Senate

As immigration reform moves forward in the Senate, the success of any legislation will depend on the cooperation of conservative lawmakers with troubling histories on the issue. However, it is not only their past policy positions and quotes that are disturbing. These key conservative senators also share a history of campaign contributors who also fund extremist anti-immigrant organizations, including those labeled as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Each of the Republican senators in the immigration “gang of eight” have supported extreme positions and aligned themselves with anti-immigrant forces. Beyond the “gang,” leading conservatives such as Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sens. John Cornyn, Chuck Grassley, David Vitter, and Ted Cruz will figure prominently into the fate of immigration reform despite having similarly concerning records.
