Trump Admin Teams Up With Kochs To Sell Tax Cuts For Billionaires

Trump Treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin today announced that he plans to campaign with Koch brothers front groups Freedom Partners and Americans for Prosperity to push for the Trump’s upcoming tax “reform” bill that’ll mean massive tax cuts for billionaires like Trump, the Kochs, and Trump’s biggest megadonors, including the Mercer and Adelson families.

WATCH:

Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips: Are you guys really ready to fight for this? […] We want to make sure that you guys are ready to join us on this…

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin: We are so ready. We’ve been ready since January 1.

“Of course the Trump Administration is teaming up with the Koch brothers to sell disproportionate tax cuts for billionaires as a win for working people,” said American Bridge VP Shripal Shah. “Like every other aspect of the Trump presidency, this tax plan is a huge scam. Trump and Republican donors will get […]

Sanders Questions: Screw The Mooch Edition

“Tired of all the winning, yet? President Trump promised to hire the best people but all we’ve gotten from this White House is a string of failures. Anthony Scaramucci is just the latest casualty. The White House is a disaster from top down and anyone who thinks that John Kelly can right this ship is delusional.” –American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden

Here are some key questions for White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who will certainly have her hands full this afternoon:

1. With all of the shakeups at the White House, do you expect you’ll still have a job tomorrow?

2. What does President Trump have to say to those who will suffer from higher premiums if he follows through with this threat to end Obamacare payments?

3. What is the Trump administration going to do to other than threaten China on Twitter to address the growing threat of a nuclear […]

Editorials Roundup: Unpresidential Edition

State and local editorial boards captured the outrage of Americans all across the country this past week. First, President Trump and the Senate Republicans failed- again- in their most recent attempt to rip health care away from millions of Americans all to give tax cuts to millionaires. Their effort can only be described as an embarrassing spectacle that culminated in forcing a vote on a bill no one read, without a hearing, in the dead of night.

Then, President Trump gave a highly inappropriate speech to the Boy Scouts of America- sparking such disgust that the organization actually had to apologize. If that wasn’t enough, President Trump desperately tried to change the subject from his failings by instituting an unconstitutional ban on transgender military service members. Again, President Trump met sharp rebukes from the Pentagon, his own party, and Americans all across the country for such an unpatriotic […]

Bridge Project Launches New Climate Accountability Project

American Bridge’s advocacy arm, Bridge Project, is launching a new climate change initiative today ahead of Congress’ August recess, focusing on the Trump administration’s policy changes and their devastating impact on our country’s economy. Digital ads, an aggressive petition campaign, and a new online hub to boost real time accountability will be at the forefront of this initiative. In addition to rapid response and in person tracking efforts, the latest research on the Trump administration’s dangerous agenda to erase key environmental protections and in-depth reports on climate related policy changes will be housed at www.climateundertrump.com, with state and local research available to grassroots advocates, members of the press, and the public.

“Climate change presents an economic problem as well as an environmental one, and we’re going to expose the dangers of Trump’s agenda,” said American Bridge President Jessica Mackler. “If President Trump continues to put our future at risk […]

American Bridge Launches Digital Ads in 4 States On GOP Dysfunction

Ads Highlight Washington Republicans’ Total Inability to Govern & Call for Change in Congress

As the Republican Party reels from the failure of its top policy priority for the last seven years despite holding the White House and both chambers of Congress, American Bridge today is launching a digital ad campaign holding Republican politicians accountable for their party’s dysfunction and toxic agenda.

The ads, which will run on social media through the weekend, will tell swing voters, “The Republican Congress isn’t working. It’s time for new leadership in Washington.” The ads will run across four key states: Nevada, Florida, Arizona and Michigan.

“Republicans in Washington are mired in dysfunction, unable deliver on their campaign promises and beholden to a toxic legislative agenda. They are offering the country chaos when we need competence,” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah.  “Kicking millions off of their insurance in order to cut taxes for the rich was a […]

American Bridge Statement on Trump and Republicans’ Failure to Gut the American Healthcare System

American Bridge President Jessica Mackler released the following statement after Republicans’ healthcare vote failed tonight:

“Every Republican in Washington should be ashamed for spending the better part of 2017 pushing a plan to gut healthcare for the middle class in order to cut taxes for the rich. Fortunately for the American people, Republicans are too incompetent to run the government, let alone live up to the promises they failed to deliver on today.  Republicans should learn from their mistakes and now work in good faith with Democrats to fix the existing law, rather than continue pursuing partisan plans to strip millions of their insurance. That unworkable agenda must finally come to an end after years of lies and broken promises.

“This process proves once and for all that Republicans are more than willing to sell out Americans on Trump’s behalf, leaving the public to suffer the consequences. Our country deserves better.

“Every single […]

American Bridge Statement on Senators Graham, McCain, Johnson, and Cassidy’s Press Conference

American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah released the following statement responding to a healthcare press conference held by Senators Graham, McCain, Johnson and Cassidy:

“It’s tough to take this rhetoric seriously considering recent history. If Senators McCain, Graham, Johnson, and Cassidy are sincere about working in a bipartisan fashion, they need to vote down this bogus ‘skinny repeal’ bill. Full stop. Hedging their bets on some bogus assurances that they may get from Speaker Ryan won’t cut it. House Republicans aren’t working in good faith and no one should think otherwise.”

Trump Using A Recess Appointment For A New AG Would Be Unconstitutional

President Trump is openly floating the possibility using a recess appointment for a new Attorney General, but such a move would be yet another example of obstruction of justice from a President who is already neck-deep in scandal. First, he tried to block the Russia investigation by firing FBI Director James Comey, but that only made things worse. Now, Trump appears to be shopping for an Attorney General to serve as an accomplice – someone willing to join the President in obstructing justice by ending Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s Russia probe. Unfortunately for Trump, this plan won’t work either, as the Supreme Court and prominent Republicans have already made clear.

Here’s what President Trump should expect to hear from his fellow Republicans if he tries to make an unconstitutional recess appointment:

Sen. Mitch McConnell Called Recess Appointments A “Dangerous Threat To The Rule Of Law.” “It represents a clear, clear rebuke […]

Mike Rounds shows Republicans’ hand on so-called “skinny” repeal

“Mike Rounds just admitted what everyone else already knows to be true: this so-called ‘skinny’ repeal is a disaster, and Republicans are only pushing it because they don’t want to be exposed as the failures they are.  Trying to find a craven way to pass the buck and vote for it anyway is about as cynical as you can get, which speaks to how low Republicans are sinking to rubber-stamp Donald Trump’s agenda.

“It’s long past time for McConnell to scrap the theatrics and work on a bipartisan plan to improve the existing law. Booting millions from their insurance is not an answer,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates.

Liz Goodwin, Yahoo News, 7/27/2017: “Sen Rounds says he’s asked for a guarantee house won’t pass skinny before conference or a delay in implementation if it passes”

Sanders Questions: Vote-a-Rama Edition

American Bridge Rapid Response Director calls on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to answer the following questions:

1. Does President Trump support a “skinny repeal” bill even though it would throw 16 million Americans off their insurance and even cause four million Americans to lose insurance through their employer?

2. Is the Trump administration threatening to retaliate against all Republican Senators for voting ‘no’ on health care proposals by stalling other policy and personnel priorities as reported in Alaska?

3. Senator Grassley warned last night that the Judiciary Committee will not confirm a new Attorney General. Will you confirm President Trump won’t attempt a recess appointment to replace Jeff Sessions?

4. Does President Trump agree with Anthony Scaramucci that Reince Preibus is behind leaks to the press?

5. Yesterday you said it was up to the Pentagon to determine how to implement President Trump’s transgender ban. Today the Pentagon punted back to the […]
