JCT proves Trump-Republican tax plan increases deficit by $1 trillion with tax cuts for the rich, breaking top promise

The Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) just concluded that – even according to Republicans’ preferred scoring method – the Senate Republican tax plan would increase the national deficit by $1 trillion in order to cut taxes for the high income earners and corporations.  These unaffordable tax cuts would be made possible by raising taxes on millions of middle class Americans.

At the same time, the Treasury Department study of the tax proposal’s economic effects that Sec. Steve Mnuchin has promised multiple times is still nowhere to be found.

“Congress’s independent tax experts just refuted one of the top promises that Donald Trump and Senate Republicans have made to the American people, proving that their reckless tax plan would explode the deficit by $1 trillion,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “This trickle-down sham would sell-out the American middle class with tax increases to allow new breaks for big money donors, […]

Sanders Questions: Musical Chairs Edition

The White House didn’t even wait for Friday to dump the news of yet another senior level shake up. This time, it’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who is reportedly leaving his post to make way for CIA Director Mike Pompeo. Coming one day after President Trump was condemned by British Prime Minister Theresa May for spreading anti-Muslim hate propaganda–an unprecedented move from one of our greatest allies—it is clear the Trump Administration’s foreign policy apparatus is in complete disarray and the only man to blame is Donald Trump himself.

American Bridge Rapid Response Director Emily Aden calls on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to answer the following questions:

1. Is Donald Trump bringing in Mike Pompeo to the State Department to further assure Vladimir Putin he does not condemn Russia’s attack on the 2016 election?

2. By 2027, people making $40,000 to $50,000 would pay a combined $5.3 billion more in taxes, […]

FACT CHECK: Trump’s Tax Plan Actually Encourages Outsourcing

In St. Charles, Missouri, Donald Trump just blatantly lied when he said the Senate tax bill is “anti-offshoring and 100 percent worker.”  This is far from the truth – these plans charge lower tax rates on foreign profits than domestic profits, which encourages outsourcing.

Numerous economic experts, including a former White House economic adviser to President George H.W. Bush, two former National Economic Council directors, and multiple think tanks have sounded the alarm that these tax policy changes would cause more outsourcing of American jobs. The AFL-CIO and the United Steelworkers have also identified this threat of more offshoring as their main reason for opposing the Republican tax plans.

“Donald Trump’s entire case for his tax plan is built on lies, and the American people aren’t going to be fooled,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “The Senate Republican bill sells-out the American middle class and working families with job-killing incentives for companies to move operations overseas, breaking Trump’s number […]

Republicans follow their unpopular healthcare plan with the most unpopular tax plan in 36 years

new analysis by FiveThirtyEight finds that the Trump-Republican tax bill “is one of the least popular tax plans since Ronald Reagan’s day,” using polling averages dating back to 1981.

FiveThirtyEight concludes that the tax proposal is “historically” unpopular with the American public “because they think it disproportionately benefits the rich.”

Based on study after study, they’re right – this plan would raise taxes on 87 million middle class households to help finance outsize new breaks for the wealthiest Americans as well as a permanent corporate rate cut that Fortune 500 CEOs are saying would not go toward new jobs, but increasing shareholder pay.

“The American people are decisively rejecting the Trump-Republican tax bill because they know it cuts taxes for the rich and big companies at the expense of everyone else,” said American Bridge spokesperson Andrew Bates. “No matter how recklessly Trump and Republican Senators try to shove this bill […]

Republicans On The Senate Budget Committee Vote To Sell-Out Middle Class Taxpayers

American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah released the following statement after the Senate Budget Committee passed the Republican tax plan with a party-line vote:

“Every Republican who voted ’yes’ just told the American people that tax cuts for the rich and large corporations are worth higher taxes for middle class familieshigher healthcare costs for everyone, and the risk of more job-killing outsourcing.  This tax plan sells-out the American middle class and working families – and the Senators who backed it will be held accountable by their constituents.”

Trump Takes A Dangerous Agenda For Middle Class Families To Capitol Hill

As President Trump meets with Congressional Republicans today to push a tax bill that would enrich the super wealthy by increasing taxes on middle class families, he’s simultaneously ignoring key legislative priorities for working families. Together these moves underscore Trump’s true priorities – working for the rich at everyone else’s expense.

“Programs that help out millions of people are falling by the wayside because of Donald Trump’s relentless pursuit of tax cuts to benefit the super rich at the expense of the middle class,” said Trump War Room Communications Director Harrell Kirstein. “Nine million kids could lose heath insurance if the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which expired two months ago, isn’t renewed before the end of the year. Trump and the GOP must also act to prevent the deportation of 800,000 Dreamers, renew vital anti-terror intelligence operations, and reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program after one of the most devastating storm seasons in […]

As Trump Lies About Threat To Jobs, Bridge Project Renews Digital Campaign Attacking GOP Tax Plans For Outsourcing

Bridge Project has renewed the buy for a digital ad running nationally on Facebook warning that both the House and Senate Republican tax proposals would kill American jobs by encouraging companies to send them overseas with new tax incentives.  The digital ad, “Trump’s Tax Plan Sells You Out,” exposes that both Republican tax plans would break Donald Trump’s top promise to American voters – that he would protect jobs from outsourcing and bring jobs back to the United States.  Contrary to his promise, these plans charge lower tax rates on foreign profits than domestic profits, which rewards outsourcing.

This comes as Donald Trump blatantly lied about the impact the Republican tax plans would have on American jobs in today’s cabinet meeting.

“Donald Trump is breaking his promise to the country by going all-in on a tax scheme that rewards the outsourcing he swore he could stop,” said American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah. “The tax […]

Mnuchin Lies About Raising Middle Class Taxes, Accurately Says Trump Tax Bills “A Huge Boon” To Wall Street

Republicans are tripping over themselves trying to defend the Trump tax bills that raise taxes on middle class and poor families to fund tax cuts for the rich.  Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin (pictured here) admitted to Fox News the Trump proposals would be a “huge boon for the financial services industry”  Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin (pictured here) admitted to Fox News the Trump proposals would be a “huge boon for the financial services industry” moments after lying about how ending the state and local tax deduction would raise taxes on millions of middle class Americans.

This exchange followed Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch yesterday flat-out admitting that putting more money in peoples’ paychecks was “not what we’re trying to do.”

“Just like with healthcare, Republicans are trying to sell their tax plans by lying to the millions of middle class Americans […]

Sanders Questions: Anyone Thirsty? Edition

Donald Trump has returned from Asia, and with him returns everyone’s favorite part of the day: asking Sarah Huckabee Sanders questions she’ll do her best to ignore.

Unfortunately for Team Trump, while he was gone Americans learned all about what the disastrous Republican tax plan will do to the middle class, healthcare, the deficit, American jobs…we could go on.

American Bridge Trump War Room Communications Director Harrell Kirstein hopes she’s got her water bottle cap unscrewed and calls on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to answer the following questions:

1. Why is Donald Trump going back on his promise to bring back American jobs by supporting a tax package that would encourage corporations to send jobs out of the United States?

2. Following up on that, does he have anything to say to the 36 million middle class Americans whose taxes will go up under his tax plan?

3. Why did President Trump […]

BREAKING: Republicans Vote To Raise Taxes On Middle Class Americans, Cut Medicare, And Send Jobs Overseas

American Bridge Vice President Shripal Shah released the following statement in response to the House passing the Trump tax plan:

“In lockstep with Donald Trump, House Republicans just voted to raise taxes on 36 million middle class Americanscut Medicare by $25 billion, and outsource American jobs – all to cut taxes for the super rich and big corporations.  This is a disastrous plan that sells-out hardworking, average Americans who are counting on jobs and a better economic future.  The country deserves better, and the public will hold these Republicans accountable.”

Yesterday, Bridge Project released a new digital ad running nationally on Facebook, “Trumps Tax Plan Sells You Out,” which highlights warnings that the Republican tax plan would break Donald Trump’s #1 promise and help outsource American jobs he said he would protect.
